My Simple Skin Care Routine While I Travel

I’ve had trouble with acne in the past and have finally figured out how to get the skin I want. It took over a year of seeing various specialists in various fields, from dermatology to functional medicine. I’ve tried A LOT of natural remedies, dietary restrictions, vitamins, etc. I refused to take antibiotics or birth control like typical western doctors wanted to prescribe me.

Here’s what I’ve learned: If you are having acne there is an imbalance on your skin and/or in your body that is saying it needs help. Don’t just mask the symptoms; find the root cause and heal it.

While traveling, your body may be under more stress and so it’s more important to take care of your skin. Here are some tips and a routine that will leave you with glowing and radiant skin while you travel.

First step, stop putting harmful chemicals and toxins on your skin. Check out this list of common ingredients to ALWAYS avoid. They ruin the microbiome of your skin, strip it’s natural oils, and some are endocrine disruptors that are linked to cancer. This is important. Opt for organic products. It’s always worth it to pay more for quality when it comes to your health and wellbeing.

Second step, Keep your space clean. Disinfect cell phone often. Clean your makeup often with an alcohol spray. Wash your pillow case a couple times a week. silk pillowcases hold less bacteria. Wash your face twice a day with the right products for your skin type. When you rinse your face, use a fresh cloth every time. Opt for Organic. Include products with probiotics.

Cutting back on processed food and sugar is key as well. I stopped eating gluten and dairy and this made my skin clear up more. I also started supplementing with high quality whole food supplements that fixed nutrient deficiencies I realized I had when I got my blood paneled by a functional medicine doctor. All of these things combined will do wonders for your skin. It is true that beauty comes from the inside. If you want radiant skin you have to treat your entire body with love and nourishment.

Why A Trip To Amsterdam is Therapeutic

The architecture in Amsterdam is therapeutic alone. Add in all the city has to offer and it’s a serious mood lifter in a so many ways.

Here are a few ways a trip to Amsterdam can be therapeutic, along with photos of the city.

It’s the best place to ride a bike. Because Who isn’t happier after a bike ride? Better yet, take a guided bike tour, make new friends from around the world, and learn some history about the city.



You can lighten up A LOT in Amsterdam. Visit the Red Light District. Hangout in a “coffee shop,” even if you don’t like to consume marijuana, it’s obviously legal here and a part of the city’s unique culture. 


You can get a major change in perspective – Visit the Ann Frank House. This place will leave you in silence and marvel. It’s not everywhere that you can view one of the most horrific events in modern history through the eyes of a child. You will probably shed some much needed tears. I did.


You can chill in a magnificent park. Optional Tai Chi. Nothing is more therapeutic than sunshine and nature. Amsterdam’s parks are prime in the summer months. It’s common to see groups of people doing chi tai. So peaceful.

Amsterdam has one of the best live music scenes. Catch a music festival. Dance. Go on a pub crawl. Make new friends. Amsterdam’s night life is hard to beat.
